Now looking back with it being over 10 years ago is quite difficult, but I will try to recap and all I can say is Tokoriki… WOW!

Fiji had always been on my ‘to visit’ list. Not really sure why, just from little old Luton Town (where I lived and had grown up) it sounded quite exotic. Then in 2004 I managed to convince my other half it would be the perfect place for us to go on our honeymoon – thankfully, despite the cost, he agreed. Not only did he agree but he upgraded us to a helicopter transfer and also a Sunset Pool Villa.

The island resort was amazing. The staff were incredibly friendly and at dinner later that night we were welcomed with open arms into the Tokoriki family. Nothing was ever too much for them. The food was incredible, and I’m not just saying that as I had starved myself in preparation for our ‘big day’. I literally stuffed myself silly with everything on the menu! At lunch the toasties were mouthwatering and, even though I’m not a pudding person, their amazing chocolate cake with ice cream was to die for.

We took part in the free snorkelling activities to various areas around the island, and some that were a little further away. We also went to the local village island and sampled the kava (wowzers!!!) Lastly, we had a ‘private island picnic’. Another thing they offered was a chance to go to the island that the Tom Hanks film Castaway was filmed on which we jumped at and loved!

Obviously our trip was over a decade ago, so have no idea as to what it may be like now, although a quick search on the internet shows it is now holds the following titles for 2016;

#1 Hotel Fiji
#1 Hotel Romance Fiji
#1 Hotel South Pacific
#2 Hotel Romance South Pacific
#10 Hotel Romance in the world
#16 Hotel in the world

And so it should – it was incredible!

Some photos of our stay… more to follow as at that point we were half digital photos and half ‘hard copy’ photos – so a quick nip to the loft to get some down to scan is in order!
